Using the Outlook App for Multi-Factor Authentication
As an alternative to using the preferred Microsoft Authenticator App, it is possible to use the Outlook App for second-factor authentication instead. Make sure you are signed into the mobile Outlook app, and follow the steps below.
1. Open the Outlook app and accept the MFA notification prompt (if already enabled, this message will not appear).
2. Once enabled, swipe from the left-hand side of the Outlook app and tap the settings gear icon in the bottom left corner.
3. Within Settings, tap your email address under Mail Accounts
4. Scroll down until the Authenticator section appears, then tap it.
5. All you need to do now is toggle the Approve sign-ins button to on, then Outlook will be enabled as your primary MFA source.
6. If successful, a one time code will appear and future sign-in attempts will prompt an approval notification
